901 Health

About Us

Malnutrition and chronic diseases are becoming a prominent issue in our society, especially among students. This is due to the majority of Shelby County not having access to proper lifestyle education or hygiene resources, depriving them of proper health. 27% of kids in Shelby County have limited access to food. These challenges ultimately limit the overall well-being of students, including their physical, mental, emotional, and social health.

901 Health is dedicated to enhancing the lives of marginalized populations by spreading awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through various service projects and advocacy. In our rapidly growing community, health is not just a priority; it is a necessity, and 901 Health is here to make a difference. Addressing such issues is crucial in order to help the next Memphis generation strive toward its greatest potential.

Every year, my family and I visit India, and there are kids left and right who need are in need of basic nutrition or hygienic resources. After seeing this, I realized how omnipresent the lack of healthcare resources is, back home in the Greater Memphis area itself. Students are not being taught basic self-care skills, and the rate of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension is significantly rising. 11% of adults in Shelby County are diagnosed with diabetes, and almost 40% of Public School students in Shelby County are reported to be overweight or obese. As access to proper nutrition, medical care, or sanitary products is not always affordable, especially for low-income families and schools, these rates will keep on increasing if changes are not made.
